UNITY’s Communities
This study needs YOU to help guide a national study and have Black men’s stories and experiences be recognized in HIV/AIDS research.

Collaborative Council
Community collaboration has been at the heart of UNITY since the very beginning.  UNITY works with a committed Collaborative Council, made up of individuals who are Black men or trans people, as well as allies and others who have experience working with Black communities.  The Collaborative Council offers insight and advice into every aspect of how UNITY is happening.
The Collaborative Council worked with the HIV Research Section to answer key questions about how to make this study happen, including the geographic reach of the study, the community engagement and recruitment activities, and even the name and the logo.  The Collaborative Council is continuing to meet as UNITY is happening, and continues to impact the way the work is done.
The Collaborative Council also holds the HIV Research Section responsible for communicating back to our diverse communities all that is learned from UNITY, and including the communities in making decisions about moving forward with further studies.
To find out more about the Collaborative Council, contact Chadwick [dot] Campbell [at] sfdph [dot] org.

Neighborhood Partners
UNITY has also made an effort to partner with organizations in four areas of San Francisco where Black men and trans people live: the Southeast (including Bayview Hunters Point, Visitacion Valley, and Potrero Hill), the Tenderloin, Castro/SoMA, and Western Addition/ Fillmore.  These partnerships allow UNITY to get neighborhood-specific ideas and supports for how to do outreach within those diverse San Francisco settings.  UNITY also makes an effort to understand and support the excellent work already happening within each of those neighborhoods.
